Title: Summary of The Little Prince
The narrative opens with a pilot stranded in the Sahara Desert after his plane crashes. There, he meets the Little Prince, a young boy who has journeyed from his tiny asteroid, B-612. The Little Prince shares tales of his home: a minuscule planet where he diligently铲除s baobab trees to prevent them from destroying the planet, and tends to a fragile, vain rose. Though he adores the rose, her demands for attention and occasional lies wound him, prompting his departure to seek wisdom.
His interplanetary travels lead him to six asteroids, each hosting a single adult: a king claiming rule over all (yet commanding only the stars to obey), a conceited man obsessed with admiration, a drunkard who drinks to forget his guilt of drinking, a businessman hoarding stars as "property" without ever using them, a lamplighter mindlessly lighting and dimming a lamp on a planet rotating every minute, and a geographer who records "important" data but has never visited the places he describes. These encounters leave the Little Prince perplexed, unable to grasp the adults’ hollow priorities.
Upon reaching Earth, the Little Prince first encounters a snake, which offers to help him return home if he desires. Later, he meets a fox, who imparts the story’s core lesson: “It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.” The fox explains "taming"—nurturing a relationship through time and care—creates uniqueness. The Little Prince realizes his rose is irreplaceable because he has loved and cared for her, making her the only rose of her kind in the universe.
As the pilot works to repair his plane, he and the Little Prince form a profound bond, sharing moments of joy and longing. The Little Prince, however, grows homesick for his rose and resolves to return. With the snake’s bite, he believes his spirit will break free from his body to journey home. On his final night, he tells the pilot, “The stars will be as if all were laughing.”
The pilot eventually fixes his plane and departs the desert, forever transformed by the Little Prince. Gazing at the stars, he cherishes the memory of the boy’s laughter and the truth that love and connection are life’s true essence.
